PSHE and RSE are taught under the umbrella of Personal Development Learning (PDL) in our curriculum. 

At Hamble Primary, we follow a Programme of Study designed by Jigsaw. This is supplemented by our assembly programme which ensures a thorough PDL curriculum.

E-Safety and Life Online

We use the guidance 'Education for a Connected World' to ensure complete coverage of all elements of online safety. This occurs through PDL, Computing and our assembly programme.

RSE Consultation 

As you may be aware, The Department for Education has announced changes to Relationships and Sex Education (RSE). These changes have now come into effect in all schools and we are therefore obliged to comply with the updated requirements. This means that we have been in the process of reviewing our RSE curriculum and policy, so we can be sure our provision meets the Government criteria and is appropriate for our children based on:

• Age
• Physical and emotional maturity
• Religious and cultural backgrounds
• Special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND)
• What pupils need to know to be healthy and safe in school, in their personal relationships and in the wider world

At Hamble Primary School we value the education provided by the RSE and PDL curriculum in preparing our children for the wider world, their place in it and to be respectful and accepting of all, to live safely and have a positive contribution to society. 

Our updated RSE Policy can be found below and will remain open for comments during this period of consultation. Please note that in primary schools, Relationships Education and Health Education are statutory. However, Sex Education (which goes beyond the national curriculum for science, such as how babies are conceived and born) is not mandatory.

Right to Withdraw: While you cannot opt your child out of the statutory Relationships Education, you do have the legal right to request that your child be excused from non-statutory Sex Education. There is information on how to do this included in the policy.
